The next year, Ken thought better of retiring and leased Jim Harvey’s Trendwest hull that was built by Ron Brown a couple of years before. The boat number was U-2, and in keeping with Superior Racing’s history as U-25 it was decided to run as the U-2.25 for the 2006 season.
This hull gave Dave Williams’ his first opportunity to drive an Unlimited, sharing the duty with Ken at the Gold Cup, where the U-2.25 led the race in points after the first day. After a season of racing it was determined that despite many attractive features, the boat was just too heavy for the highly competitive racing environment of the ABRA, and the boat was retired. Jay Leckrone was crew chief.
